There's no one-size-fits-all answer. For critical coverage — entrances, parking, packages — we strongly recommend hardwired. For temporary placements or hard-to-wire spots, battery cameras still earn their keep.

A PoE-wired core of 4–8 cameras covering entrances, driveway, and yard — plus a local NVR for 24/7 recording. Add wireless sensors and smart locks on top. It's the combo that doesn't fail when you actually need it.
Security system pricing depends more on cabling than on the cameras themselves. The biggest cost drivers:
4 cameras vs. 12 is a real difference. 4K sensors cost more but give you usable detail at distance.
Running Cat6 through a finished basement is harder than a stud-wall new build. We scope it honestly.
Network Video Recorder size dictates how many days of 24/7 footage you keep. 30 days is typical.
Smart locks, doorbells, and sensors add cost — but put everything into one app.
