The homeowners who end up happy with solar are usually the ones who were clear about why they wanted it. These are the reasons that hold up.
Solar is a multi-decade decision about your home. The real question is whether the numbers work for your roof and your usage — which is what a proposal is for.
Generating some of your own power gives you a measure of control over a bill you currently just receive. It does not fix every component of that bill, or future rates.
A clear, well-oriented roof is an asset doing nothing today. Solar is one way to put it to work.
Homeowners often look at solar alongside a re-roof, an addition, or a new EV. The timing can matter as much as the system.
Section 02
Not every roof is a good candidate, and it is better to know early. Four things decide it:
South-facing roofs produce the most energy. East and west-facing roofs still work — expect roughly 10–15% less yield per panel, depending on pitch and shading.
An array is a multi-decade addition to your roof. If your shingles have less than 10 years left, plan a re-roof first — we can coordinate.
Trees, chimneys, and neighbouring rooflines all cut production. Micro-inverters handle partial shade better than a string design does.
System size is bounded by the clear roof area you have, your annual consumption, and the limit your utility allows.
Conditions: the orientation and fit guidance above are planning rules of thumb. Your production figures come from a model built on your usage, address, and aerial imagery, and are an estimate of expected production — not guaranteed output. System size limits are set by current Alberta and utility rules and are confirmed during design.
Section 03
You do not need roof photos, measurements, or an energy rating. A recent bill and your address are enough for us to model a first design.

Conditions: timing varies with equipment, roof complexity, season, inspection, and utility approval, so this guide does not publish an install or activation date — your proposal gives the current expectation. Permit and interconnection steps depend on your municipality and your local distribution utility, and differ between Edmonton and the surrounding communities; K-Jay confirms which apply to your address during design.
Section 04
A proposal contains both hard specifications and modelled estimates, and it is worth knowing which is which before you compare quotes.

Conditions: this is the equipment we currently specify for a standard residential roof — the make and model on your system are the ones named in your proposal, which is the document that governs. Warranty terms are set by the manufacturers, not by K-Jay; the 25-year micro-inverter term is the extended option, which K-Jay purchases on every system rather than leaving it to you. APsystems requires the system to be monitored through their EMA portal for that coverage to stay in force, and monitoring is built into every design we do. Panel efficiency is a rated figure under standard test conditions; real output depends on the roof, shading, snow, and temperature.
Section 05
Solar chosen during construction is a different decision, made through your builder rather than here — and it is usually the cleaner way to do it.
Solar selected during construction goes on with the rest of the work, and the cost may be able to sit inside your mortgage. Ask your lender how that applies to you.
A solar rough-in during construction keeps the exterior cleaner for a later install, without committing to the full system now.
You do not need roof details or an energy rating. Ask your builder's sales team for the solar option — K-Jay gathers the technical inputs from there.
Sizing is a conversation, not a single fixed package. Your builder's sales team walks you through the options for your home.
Conditions: new-home solar options, system sizing, and pricing are set through the builder path and confirmed by your builder's sales team, not on this page. Whether solar can be included in a mortgage depends on your lender and your financing, not on K-Jay.
