Compare Level 1 and Level 2 charging, then check the panel, parking, cable route, and equipment details that shape a safe home setup. By the end, you should know which charging level fits your routine and what information an electrician needs.

How far you actually drive on a normal day decides which level of charging fits — and for most people it is less than they assume. Start here before thinking about equipment.

Conditions: the range figures above are general ranges for each charging level, not a specification for any charger. Real charging speed depends on your vehicle's onboard charger, the EVSE, the circuit it is on, the state of charge, and the temperature. K-Jay's standard offer is Level 2 work at detached homes; Level 1 is included here for comparison, not as a marketed service.

Four things decide whether an install is straightforward. None of them require you to know anything technical — photos are enough for us to work it out.

An attached garage is the straightforward case. When a vehicle parks on a driveway close to the garage, a charger mounted inside near the overhead door will commonly reach it.
Longer wire runs cost more. We assess your garage layout from the same photos and recommend the most practical routing.
A load controller lets the charger share existing capacity, which can make an install work at a 100-amp home without a service upgrade. Your assessment confirms whether it applies.
Conditions: this describes the standard path — a detached home with an accessible panel and practical routing. Older homes, panel upgrades, detached garages, and trenching are all still quoteable, but they are assessed individually rather than against the standard path, and outdoor or driveway-mounted equipment is a case-by-case decision rather than the default.
Section 03
Install costs vary. These are the real drivers — and what we need from you to price them.
Already have a charger? Great — we will install it. Need one? We can help you choose and supply it. Smart wi-fi units cost more and add scheduling and monitoring.
Circuit sizing, mounting, weatherproofing, and final testing are quoted together rather than itemised as surprises later.

Older homes, panel upgrades, detached garages, and trenching are quoted individually rather than priced off a standard path.
Conditions: these are the cost drivers, not a price list. What your install costs depends on the assessment of your own panel, routing, and equipment.

Conditions: for a straightforward detached-home install with an accessible panel and practical routing, our photo-led process is planned as a single visit. Jobs that turn out to need a site visit, a panel upgrade, a detached garage, or trenching are assessed individually and may run longer. This guide does not publish a booking lead time; your quote gives the current expectation.
Section 05
If your garage has not been built yet, your decision is a different one — and it is made through your builder rather than here.
With the walls still open, the charger circuit goes in alongside the rest of the electrical work. Nothing has to be retrofitted later.
A rough-in puts the wiring in place during construction so a later install stays clean and simple, without committing to the charger now.
New-home EV options are selected through your builder's sales team, not through this intake. They will have the current options and pricing.
Then the photo-led quote described above is your path — no builder involved.
