Start with how far you drive on a normal day. That helps determine which charging level fits before you choose equipment.

Conditions: the range figures above are general ranges for each charging level, not a specification for any charger. Real charging speed depends on your vehicle's onboard charger, the EVSE, the circuit it is on, the state of charge, and the temperature. K-Jay's standard offer is Level 2 work at detached homes; Level 1 is included here for comparison, not as a marketed service.

Where you park
An attached garage is the straightforward case. When a vehicle parks on a driveway close to the garage, a charger mounted inside near the overhead door will commonly reach it.

The run from the panel
Longer wire runs cost more. We assess your garage layout from the same photos and recommend the most practical routing.

If capacity is tight
A load controller lets the charger share existing capacity, which can make an install work at a 100-amp home without a service upgrade. Your assessment confirms whether it applies.
Conditions: the standard path is a detached home with an accessible panel and practical routing. We quote older homes, panel upgrades, detached garages and trenching individually. Outdoor or driveway-mounted equipment is assessed case by case.

Choosing your EV charger
Match the connector to your vehicle, check its AC charging limit, and choose a cable that reaches your parking spot. Consider indoor or outdoor use and whether app features matter. Send the make and model or a product link; if you are undecided, we can help before you buy.

Hardwired or plug-in?
A hardwired EV charger connects directly to the installed circuit. A plug-in charger uses a compatible receptacle and suitable circuit. J1772 and NACS describe vehicle-side connectors, not that wall receptacle. The home, equipment and requested current determine which installation fits.

The electrical work
Your quote includes circuit sizing, mounting, weatherproofing and final testing together.

What we need from you
Provide the five views as photos or a clear walkthrough video: panel and directory, main breaker, area around the panel, charger location and cable route. The online intake also requires an estimated cable-route length in feet. Keep panel views limited to safely visible information; never remove a cover or touch electrical equipment for a photo. Tell us if a view is unsafe to obtain or another technical detail is unknown. For a standard detached home, usable views are normally enough to begin the remote quote review; we will tell you if closer assessment is needed.

We quote older homes, panel upgrades, detached garages and trenching individually.
Most K-Jay home EV installations cost $1,400 to $2,600 including GST, excluding the charger. Permits, travel, and required load management are included in the agreed quote. Run length, difficulty, and load management shape the price. You can supply your own charger; K-Jay-supplied equipment is a separate upfront line item.

Jobs that turn out to need a site visit, a panel upgrade, a detached garage, or trenching are assessed individually and may run longer. This guide does not publish a booking lead time; your quote gives the current expectation.

If your garage has not been built yet, choose EV options through your builder.

Install it during the build
With the walls still open, the charger circuit goes in alongside the rest of the electrical work, avoiding a later retrofit.

Rough it in for later
A rough-in puts the wiring in place during construction for a later installation, without committing to the charger now.

Ask your builder
New-home EV options are selected through your builder's sales team, not through this intake. They will have the current options and pricing.
